Cesar's Biography

Introduction to Music

César Astudillo was formally initiated in the arts at the age of 5 when he began attending Oak Park Music Conservatory in San Diego, California. César attended Oak Park school from kindergarten thru second grade. His curriculum was alternated by trimesters; receiving musical instruction in various percussion instruments, as well as piano and violin. César also participated in stage and musical productions held at this school. César later attended Kellogg Visual & Performing Arts School as a 3rd grader. Here, César studied the transversal flute for two straight years followed by a year of trumpet lessons under the direction of Mrs. Ricki Pederson.

Joining TINKU

On his 8th birthday, César received a guitar from his father. Guitar & percussion lessons began shortly afterwards under the direction of Francisco Astudillo, an entrepreneur and a well known artist. Two years later, César continued to show remarkable abilities and interest in music. At age 10, he became the youngest ever musician to join the band TINKU. In his initial stages as musician of TINKU, Cesar participated as a percussionist.

As a multi-instrumentalist, César masters the percussions in the use of the Andean drum Bombo and its accompanying instruments like the Hi-hats, Chajchas, wind chimes, maracas, palo de lluvia (rainstick) and others. Cesar has grown in his musical abilities and now also performs electric bass and guitar; making his debut as a guitarist in September 2006. In the group acts, Cesar is the lead guitarist.
